Surfs Up

Here is my version of Surfs Up. It was recorded
near the end of the Wrong Button sessions, so is very much in the style of that album. I was trying to imagine how Brian might have recorded the second section, and it is quite different from the other versions you have heard. I particularly enjoy the bit right at the end, although it makes me cringe. Its amazing how you turn into a gushy mess when you meet your hero.
Please let me know what you think.

Steve,

Brilliant mate, one of the best versions I have ever heard, and truly original in every respect.

I've told the Blueboarders to check it out.

Cheers

Mark

Sorry Stephen, I have called you Steve by mistake, still better than Sven I suppose.

Utterly magnificent!!!

A really, really great version. I love the inclusion of "Auld Lang Syne", the beginning, the 2nd part, everything!

Congratulations!

I've been listening to it over and over again for the last 20 minutes - and even though I loved it from the beginning, it manages to grow on me. Amazing!

Thanks Mark for the mention on the blueboard, and thanks Linear for your kind comments. I'm glad you like it. I once considered cutting the entire SMiLE album, but then thought no - way too much work. I'm considering doing a Heroes and Villains, rerecording some of the rare segments found on the vol 1 and 2 boots, and playing around with the running order. I still think the BWPS version was a copout

Brilliant!!! Just started listening to The Wrong Button as well - really intense and slightly creepy. In the best possible way, of course.

Hi Stephen,

I just heard your version of Surf's Up and again I am blown away by your mesmerizing style.

Your music is always so reminiscent of Edward Scissorhands for me. Your music very much reminds me of Danny Elfman's musical scores.

Very clever, and very beautiful. It's utterly a new experience to hear your version of the song. A very mature and serious effort and I applaud it.

I sincerely hope you will be releasing some new material in the future, because everything you have released in the past is always perfect.
